Just a thought to maintain league activity here...
Currently, if a player is extended for over $5,000,000 per year, that player can not be traded until the end of the season in which his contract is extended. I'm fairly certain that this rule exists to mirror the current NBA rules.
However, in the past we've made rule changes in the BBS to maintain or increase league activity, and perhaps this one should be examined as well. In the next few seasons, with so many impact players potentially becoming FAs, removing this restriction could increase trading activity immensely.
An extension to an expiring contract potentially makes a player more attractive if a gm wants to trade them. It also allows the opportunity for 2nd and 3rd tier teams to acquire expiring talent, extend them with available cap space, then trade them for pieces that will help them to the next level.
In my mind, there are a fair amount of compelling reasons to consider allowing trading of all players recently extended, but in the end I think the biggest positive is the strong potential for increased activity from all teams.
Anybody with an opinion?[/color]
