Spence and i were talkin about how the league can be more entertaining and interesting and we came up with a little idea, I used it in NABL 2 so some of you might recognize it.
Some of these ideas would consist of:
*Random Drug Tests *Suspensions *Players wanting to be traded *Players not getting along with teamates/team/coach *Players arrested *Teams fined for players behavior
The way we would do this would be totally random, and i will tell you how i will accomplish this.
Beside each players name on your roster is an I.D. number.
Ex:
82 Speedy Claxton PG
I would input this number into a tool that randomly generates numbers, and i would give each activity a number to use as a guideline.
Ex:
Random Drug Test=1
And each team will have a number.
Ex:
New York Knicks=3
So this is how it would work out, i tell the program to generate a number 1-29, and it picks team number 3. I go down to the list and find out what team number that is, the Knicks. So i then go to the knicks roster and have my program generate another random number, it generates number 240, i use this number as the players i.d.
I find out who this player is, Stephon Marbury, and then i proceed to the final phase. I have my program generate yet another number, this time the number is 4. I then go to my list of "extra-curricular activities" and look for number 4, lets say it turns out to be him being arrested.
I would then type up an article about what happened, and Stephon Marbury would be suspended and not able to play for X amount of time, which would be determined later.
Now to make this more realistic the league would make up a list of "troubled players" cause its very unlikely to see tim duncan getting caught with some pot. So i would also like for you guys to input on who you think would be a troubled player, like sheed or ron artest.
This wouldnt happen every sim, we were thinking like once a month, but this is another thing we want your input on. How often do you think that these RANDOM occurences should happen? Remember this will all be RANDOM!!!
Please post what you think, thanks.

Its an interesting idea. I like it mostly cause it gives you more realism when acquiring troubled stars. I was thinking that this would only affect players we designate as troubled players. So maybe we can make a list each year of 20 guys who are the "troubled stars" for that sim year. Like every other aspect of the BBS, we would designate them troubled based on their performance from the NBA. So we could go by games suspened, flagrant fouls or a combination of both. The 20 players would be randomly put in a pool, and would face a once a month drawing to see who the luck loser will be. Its an interesting idea, that can be tweaked to make it very useful in our league.

I love the idea. I say go for it. My team might suffer from the new rule since I'm the TrailBlazers Great idea, and hope the majority of the league goes with it as well. I think it would make SIMs funner also. Just my $0.02 ;D

I like this idea, as long as we have a list of "troubled players," because it will add some more realism here. However, I do think that players wanting to be traded and not getting along with others should not be random, and should include everyone. Just look at Shaq and T-Mac right now. I wouldn't say they're exactly "troubled players" for drug tests and suspensions, but the stars still want the best for themselves.

Troubled players was just for suspension, drugs arrests, wanting to be traded would be more random.

Well I don't like surprises so wouldn't want to do it but then I'm a pretty boring person.
On the other hand I'll go will the flow since it looks like the bulk of the league is all for it.

sounds good to me, 20-30 random players and then any player being able to demand/request a trade. Would add Excitement. that's how I'll feel though after one of my players demands a trade, lol

I think this is gonna work. But we have to come up with the boundaries.
For substance abuse, or suspension issues, I feel like we should create a list of the 20 biggest trouble makers each year. Then once a sim month we do a trouble maker lotto. The suspension can be anywhere from 3 to 5 games, and the reasons can be fighting drugs or t's.
As for players wanting to be traded, I feel this is more touchy. Do we drop a players ratings once this happens? Do we do this once a month? Once a year? I feel the ratings should drop until the player is traded, otherwise, there really is no reason to grant him his wish to be dealt. Once they are acquired by the new team, his ratings will be restored.
So I want us to.....
come up with a list of trouble makers
decide how often each lotto will take place
decide if we will drop grades for those players that are unhappy

This is crap because somehow i will end up getting screwed and losing a player or two to demanding a trade and i dont thikn its fair because if u are forced to trade someone, no one will give u shit for him because they know u have to move them.
I dont want my players suspended for stuipd things either. As far as i know not one person on my team has been in trouble at all and id like it to stay that way not by some random crap that isnt needed in the sim.
I am VERY STRONGLY against this idea. As much as i would consider quitting this sim, which ive been in since day 1, if this rule was put into effect.

I don't see why we should suspend players for acts, this a sim league for a reason.
But if this were to go into effect than I would say that personalities in general would effect a persons trade value. [Ricky Davis would be worth nothing, and so on.]

I agree 100%, it is going to take away from the league and not be as fun. It seems like a cool idea but as soon as someone gest screwed over by it htey will be agaisnt it. I am against it already because i know it will only piss me off and make my experience worse. I loved the sim last season, the only idea i could see added would be reward points for activity to where u can earn something to help u in the league such as remove a year from a contract or extend a year on a contract. This isnt real life like but everyone seems to want to add something.
I think it should stay the same. If it aint broke dont fix it. A majority of the GMs r from the original draft. I am one of these GMs and i love the way the sim is going and would prefer nothing else to change.

As of now, its just an idea, so dont worry to much. But it looks like the majority of the GM's like the idea.
This woudlnt happen every sim, maybe once every other month so the chances are slim for your team to get picked, then again someone will have to get picked.
As of worrying about getting nothing in return for a player who wanted to be traded, i wouldnt say that. Look at the T-mac/Francis deal, that came out pretty even, and if Shaq gets sent to dallas it looks like the lakers will get good players in return, possibly Nowitzki. Lets say your star player demands a trade, his rating will drop but not dramastically and since the sims are so far apart it should give you enough time to find a trade that you like without the players morale hurting your team.
Remember this is just an idea, and its far away from being put into affect. Im sure Spencer will spend much time and effort on this idea before inserting it into the sim, so we need not worry.

As of now, this is the plan.
Once a month a player will be suspended, and demand a trade.
A team can only be hit, with either or, once a year.
And its not like any team is more likely to be hurt by this. It does make it more realistic, because certain players always getting in trouble. And there value should be affected by that, because it is in the NBA.
I think its a very fair idea, and Im almost positive its gonna be part of the league.
