After weeks of deliberation it appears that Phoenix has finally has gotten a center in Allstar/All Defensive team Yao Ming. All though the road to get him in a Suns jersey was a long and tough one, Phoenix management do feel that it was worth it.
"We worked out many different scenarios, involving different players and picks. But patience and persistance payed off." GM Tony said.
The deal originally included Paul Pierce, but Phoenix was scared off by his age and contract. "Pierce is a superstar player, but hes getting up there and with the way the team is built (phoenix) i just dont think it would have been a logical move." Tony discussed.
In return Phoenix will send Thaddeus Young (aqquired in a deal with L.A. during the offseason) and once franchise player Josh Childress. Although Young has played well for Phoenix so far, they didnt mind getting rid of him due to the rare chance of aqquiring a player like Yao Ming. Childress has underperformed for the Suns ever since he suited up, although he does have a lot of potential, consistency has always eluded him.
"Its sad to leave a team that ive been with for so long, but if you dont perform up to expectations then thats what happens. Its a buisness." Childress responded after hearing the news of his departure.
Pending league approval, Yao should make his Suns debut against the world champion Rockets, Phoenix's next game. Phil Hubbard was also sent to Phoenix in the trade, look for him to immediately contend for a starting spot or a major role in the rotation.
