Every year each team gets the opportunity to MAX 1 player. You can offer your MAX at any point during the season, and it will always be accepted. If you use your MAX and end up trading that player, your MAX offer is gone.
Once per year, no carry overs.

You can also MAX whoever the hell you want during the free agency period. The one MAX is only for in-season extensions.
