The new BBS season is about to begin which means the off-season is closed. Training camps have already been ran and the hard work that some players did and did not put in during the summer has showed.
First, lets start off by mentioning the retiring of 2 BBS legends. First Spencer Martin called it quits from the Detroit Pistons after a dominating his time and now has accepted the full time commish duties. Then after winning their first BBS championship Manas Rai called it quits as the general manager of the Houston Rockets. As of now Manas is still on board as Western Conference VP on the league board.
So who replaced these 2 GMs? Well Dave Krupimpski became the new Pistons GM and Daniel Richards is the new Rockets GM. Good luck to both of them on filling some big shoes.
Now to the draft. Kevin McHale became the 1rst overall pick going to Indiana. McHale should improve the Pacer's lackluster front line. He should fit in nicely with Rudy Gay and Bill Cartwright to form one of the talented front lines in the league. Darrell Griffith was taken 2nd overall by the New Jersey Nets and he gives them another talented wing player.
Moving on to free agency there were not really any big free agent moves. There were quite a few free agents going to teams for less money though. Hassan Adams and Jarvis Hayes signed with the Sonics and the Hornets used some of there cash on J.R. Smith. Another surprise was Sergei Monia not being signed to a contract but he was picked up by the Houston Rockets on a minimum salary. Like I said though, for the most part there wasn't much noise in free agency.
In trades there were some fairly big trades made. The Rapotrs made a deal with the Magic receiving Sidney Moncrief and C.J. Miles among a couple of others heading to Canada with Johnny Moore and Kosta Perovic going to Orlando. The Celtics finally traded Peja receiving Josh Smith and Antwan Jamison in return from the Pistons. The Rockets made a deal with the Heat getting Kirk Hinrich and Andrea Bargnani in exchange for Joe Johnson and Eric Davendorf. Those were just a few of the trades made this off-season.
All in all the off season was a pretty good one for most teams. There wasn't alot of excitement but that's alright. It looks like the Rockets and Pistons should stay on top with their new GMs and hopefully with a new reward system starting to get underway GMs will be more active.
