With so many major deals going down recently lets take a look at the winners and losers of these deals.
Lets take a look at what the Seattle SuperSonics have done with some major trades recently.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sonics get: Shaqiule O'Neal, Greg Kesler, Keith Clark, and Laker's 10 first round pick
Lakers get: Stromile Swift, Stephen Jackson, Calvin Natt
and Suns '09 first round pick
The Sonics did this deal for ovbious reasons. Forget about Kesler and Clark and the 1rst round pick they go Shaq baby. This makes them instant tittle contenders. Actually they were before but with this trade they show just how serious they are about winning a tittle.
The Lakers picked up some nice players in Stromile Swift and Stephen Jackson but they won't help a rebuilding team to much except for trade bait. The only prize here is the Suns 09 1rst round draft choice where the Lakers can hopefully land Kevin McHale.
THE WINNER: The Sonics are the winners by far. They didn't give up much of anything for Shaq. The Lakers recevied no where near equal value for Shaqiule but how could they with a 19 million dollar salary for a aging superstar?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sonics get: Allen Iverson, Michael Ray Richardson, and Marcus Camby
Heat get: Michael Reed, Kirk Hinrich, Brian Skinner, and 2010 2nd Round Pick
The Sonics add yet another superstar in Allen Iverson. Michael Ray Richardson should fit in nicely with the Sonics because he doesn't need the ball and at 6'5 he has good size. Marcus Camby gives them some shot blocking and energy off the bench to give Shaq and Big Ben some rest.
The Heat lose a superstar but land Michael Reed, one of the top pure shooters in the game. Michael will get you 25 points on a high shooting percentage and that is so rare in this league. Although the Heat later dealt Reed to the Nuggets. Kirk Hinrich, the other big player in this deal heading to Miami, is one of the top all around PGs in the league. He can shoot, pass, and play defense as good as anyone.
THE WINNER: The Sonics win this trade. They now have 2 number one opitions in Shaq and AI. They have players surronding them to make this work. Ben Wallace, Shawn Marion, and Michael Ray Richardson all can be effective without the ball. So while Shaq and AI were did not work out to well in LA they should be fine in Seattle. If not they can always move one or the other.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Atlanta Sends: Marvin Williams and Michael Finley
New Jersey sends: Tony Parker
Atlanta adds another all star player to go along with Tracy McGrady and Dirk Nowitzki. All these guys can score really well. Now Atlanta just needs to add some defense around these guys to make it all work.
New Jersey adds a future all star in Marvin Williams. Marvin is someone who they can building around for the future. Finley is still a very quality player and is expiering. He will either bring New Jersey cap relief or maybe a playoff contender makes a good offer around the trade deadline.
THE WINNER: The Nets win this one. Marvin is a franchise player and Finley can still produce. The Hawks didn't really lose in this deal though they do need to follow up and add some other players around the big 3. All in all a very nice trade by both clubs.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Boston Gets: Peja Stojakovic
New Jersey Gets: Desmond Mason, Eddie Griffin, and Joel Przybilla
Boston hated to give up the depth of Desmond, Eddie, and Joel but Peja was to tempting to not make the deal. Rommie told numerous GMs that he isn't making any deals but that didn't last long as the team was starting to suck. Sorry to all the GMs who were declined.
The Nets add some quality players. They already dealt Eddie Griffin and Desmond Mason and now only hae Joel Przybilla to show from the original deal. Joel is loved by Boston because he was averaging 8 boards and 3 blocks while in Boston. Will Boston make a big push to land him back before the deadline? It is likely.
THE WINNER: This trade is won by Boston, yes I am biased BTW. Seriously though they add a legit number one scoring opition for 3 bench players.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Boston Gets: Mike Bibby
Cleveland Gets: Andre Miller
The Celtics are focusing the offense on the outside with the addition of Peja. So this trade was a fairly easy deal to make. Mike is a lesser ball handler and defender than Andre but a better shooter. [The Celtics orignaly acquired Andre from the Lakers for Rafer Alston and Rashard McCants.]
The Cavs do this deal because Andre is ranked 2nd in the league in assits. With big men Greg Oden and Josh McRoberts needing the ball down low and so many other valueable offenseive weapons Andre should be a better fit for the Cavs.
THE WINNER: It is a tie. Why you ask? It is simple, Andre Miller and Mike Bibby are both equal talents, they just bring diffrent qualities to the table. There strengths fit their new teams better though making this trade a tie.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's it for the trade insider. There were many other trades made recently but simply to many to list. Nice job by all the GMs making the trade wire interesting and good luck with your new players.
