Before the Phoenix Suns next game agains the Trailblazers tips off they will have a total of 9 different teamates. More change was in store for the Suns but there recent 0-7 start was a catalyst and prompted GM Tony Rea to make some deals quick.
"I didnt expect much out of this season, just maybe to develop are young guys. But i still expeceted us to compete." Rea said after a long day at the office.
It all started when the general office was contacted by Atlanta expressing interest in Garnett and there pick. "Atlanta offered some defense and i was quick to agree to get some inside help in exchange for our future pick." Rea said "But that was only the beginning, Sacramento then came to us offering David West, and i thought he could definately help us out!."
The best news came to Phoenix later when New York had expressed interest in Gooden. Phoenix has been trying to get rid of Gooden since Tony Rea took over as GM last year. Phoenix finally got there good offer they were expecting, and was happy to get rid of Drew in exchange for Jay Williams and Theo Davis. "Trading Gooden has been my objective since day one, but we never got a decent offer. Our best one since we tried to swap him and our pick in last years draft for Magloire. But that trade fell through."
It was a good thing that they did not trade that pick, because they would eventually use that pick to draft Cliff Robinson. Robinson has shown everyone in Phoenix that he will be there power forward of the future since his first game when he put up 23 points and 9 boards.
The biggest surprise from Phoenix was when they traded theyre number one option Richard Hamilton to sacramento for up and coming SG Reggie Theus and PG Sebastian Telfair. "It was hard to get rid of RIP. But are realy high on Theus, and Rip is just wasting away here in Phoenix, he needs to be with a team that can compete this year." Rea was quoted "We now feel like we will have a potent trio of the future with Robinson/Childress/and Theus. This trade got us a lot younger and saved us a lot of cap room." "and look what sacramento gets, they get a proven leader and scorer in Hamilton, and this years pick which is almost a guaranteed top 5!"
After the dust settles Phoenix new lineup will look something like:
PG: Williams or Rodriguez or Telfair
SG: Theus
SF: Childress
PF: Robinson
C: Davis or West
It has been rumored that Phoenix is looking to trade Telfair for Center who is an excellent defender. But if things pan out the way GM Rea thinks they will then Phoenix may no longer be re-building.
i know it was long, but i was real bored!
