I recenly caught up with the New Orleans Hornets GM to ask him about a blockbuster deal he just made. The conversation went a little something like this: What made you come to the decision to trade Dwight?gmhornets: Honestly, it was more to make a move than anything else. Over the last two seasons we have won a combined 111 games, yet have only won a total of six playoff games. Dwight was a great player for us - and Theo Davis was a great backup - but we think we upgraded our center position dealing for a star like Amir Johnson. JR Giddens shouldn't be overlooked either. OJ has already expressed pleasure at not having to play major minutes (due to Giddens' arrival) So will JR Giddens be replacing Paul Pierce as the starting SF?gmhornets: Absolutely not. Giddens will play a role on this team, but as long as Pierce is here, he will be starting. Amir Johnson only played a handful of games last seasons, does that in anyway concern you?gmhornets: No. He's young, he should be able to bounce back. I don't expect it to be a lingering problem. On to free agency, any players/positions that you are looking to sign with the MLE/LLE?gmhornets: I wish. I lost both my MLE and my LLE due to being too far over the cap. I must have missed it, Sir Charles took some time off last season. Are you looking to make any moves to get further under the hard cap?gmhornets: Not currently. Though I'm always open to any deals. Any last thing you want to say to the other GMs out there reading this?gmhornets: Regardless of the expected overhaul, we'll still be a competitive team. Thanks for your timegmhornets: No Problem
