1- Orlando Magic
Orlando is 37-18 on the season including a remarkable 23-6 at home. They have the biggest margin between first and second in the division with 10 games ahead of the next team. The Magic boasts an absolutely intimidating frontcourt with Mark Eaton, Kevin Garnett, and Larry Bird. And, although the backcourt is young, it is often the catalyst to the team’s success this year. Rookie of the Year candidate Fat Lever is showing everyone his value as the point guard of this club. This team looks like the perennial favorite in the East to win the BBS championship this season.
2- Darius Washington
Little was known or heard about from Washington when he sat on the bench and backed up marquee point guards in Andre Miller and Chris Paul in Cleveland and Detroit. Finally, Washington has got his chance in Beantown and he really is making the best out of it. Washington is top 10 in four statistical categories, including third in scoring (28.1 ppg), assists (8.7 apg), field goals per game (25.2) and thee pointers per game (6.7). He has single handily kept the Celtics in playoff contention due to his play. And, at only 24 years old he still has room to grow even scarier. Yet, the most ironic thing through all this is he signed to a bargain deal of 30 million for four more years.
3- The Eastern Central Division
This division alone has the potential to all finish above .500 with the amount of talent on these clubs. Six teams are separated by four games or less, and nearly all eight teams in the division still have a chance to make the playoffs. All of the Central teams have winning records when playing at home, and their most competition comes within their own division. One final fact, the BBS History has shown that four teams in the Central, Toronto, Chicago, Detroit, and Milwaukee have won the Championship, more than any other division.
[glow=white,2,300]Who’s NOT:[/glow]
1- San Antonio Spurs
The string of playoff runs are over, the franchise is in serious rebuilding mode from now on. Despite, retaining free agents Hedo Turkoglu, and bringing in forwards Manu Ginobilli, and Corey Maggette, the Spurs got off to a horrible start this year. Soon enough, team clog Chauncey Billups was dealt since he was in contract year and the team found itself in the cellar ever since. The Spurs still have some young talent including Dorell Wright, Eric Devendorf, and Jerryd Bayless. In addition, the Spurs have their own potential first overall pick in the upcoming draft, plus first round picks from the Raptors and Pacers.
2- Marcus Banks
Banks was once one of the most consistent point guards in the entire BBS league. He was a two time All-Star (2008, 2010) and has won player of the week and month awards in the past. However, Father Time must not be treating this former UNLV standout too well since he hit 30. This season, Banks was dealt from Memphis after four sensational seasons to Portland. After starting slow in Portland, Banks found himself in land of the Sun where he is now backing up Gilbert Arenas. There is little reason to see why. Banks is averaging career lows in points (12.4), assists (4.7), and steals (1.8). His game has taken a nosedive and his value looks real low playing on a contract year.
3- The Western Pacific Divison
It is by far the worst division in the BBS this season especially with one team setting the tone the whole year. The Warriors remain the strongest team in the division by far, and an entire power in the West itself. Only the Portland Trail Blazers (25-22), have a winning record outside of the Warriors in the division. The Sonics, who were a Finals contender this year, fell into rebuilding mode and placing all their sights on the 2013 season. Both LA teams have gone through several personnel changes through the past two seasons and have really grown with their young players. Sacramento once again made several pre-season moves that contributed to their performance this year. While, Phoenix continues to address its defensive woes since the frontcourt seems to be solidified.
