(1) - Minnesota Timberwolves - Still best in the West. We did think this team would have some slippage but they keep motoring along. Best in the league at getting to the FT line(36 times per game). They also allow the least amount of field goal attempts as well as makes and are among the leagues best in opp. FG%. Defense first in Minne and it works.
(2) - Orlando Magic - Possess an 11 point differential between points for and against which is tops in the league. Tremendous shot blocking team that creates alot of turnovers and rebounds the ball consistantly. Efficient offensively and the leagues highest scoring team(112.6 ppg).
(10) - Toronto Raptors - 21-5 in their last 26 games. Improved defensive play and increased offensive efficiency have contributed to their winning ways. A top rebounding team that shares the ball well. Carefull with the rock(11.5 tpg).
(3) - Detroit Pistons - Lead the league in assists at 27 per game. They also average the fewest turnovers against(11 tpg). A team with a strong inside/outside game. Balanced scoring as all 5 starters average double figures. Very efficient offensively(45%).
(4) - Golden State Warriors - Another efficient offensive team whose starters average in double figures. Get to the free throw line alot(31.6 FTApg). Complete offensive team that can score inside and out. Improving defensive play.
(7) - Chicago Bulls - A team that relies on it's strong perimeter game. Tied for the league avg in steals per game(9.8) and near the top in creating turnovers. A team the possesses a strong bench and holds on to the rock. Solid defensively and very capable on offense(108ppg).
(12) - Cleveland Cavaliers - One of the hottest teams as of late. A continuing theme among the top teams, they share the ball well(27apg) and don't turn it over. Shoot over 40% from 3pt land and possess the leagues most efficient offense(46.3%). Efficiency wins games.
(5) - Milwaukee Bucks - Strong defensive team that gets the job done on offense. Allow the 3rd least ppg(98). Leagues top shot blocking team at over 10 per game. Second best at creating turnovers(13.9 per). They also hold teams to 41% from the field which is a league best.
(8) - Atlanta Hawks - Like to challenge shooters, as they hold teams to 34% from behind the arc and 42% overall. Not surprisingly they only allow 100ppg. Rely on the 3 ball offensively where they hit over 40%. Branch is looking like a future allstar.
(9) - New Orleans Hornets - Decent first half for the Hornets so far but probably not meeting expectations. Howard and Livingston are both top 6 in TO's per game. Efficient on offense, capable defensively and on the boards. Struggle to make FT's(70%). Mayo is shooting the lights out.
(15) - Houston Rockets - All five starters in double figures. A team that doesn't do anything great or anything poorly. Don't possess top stats but are finding a way to win more than they lose. We think they're better than they've shown. Could have a strong second half.
(21) - Memphis Grizzlies - Lowest scoring team in the league(97ppg). Also allow the 2nd least ppg(97). Don't attempt many FG's and aren't the most efficient on offense(42.7%). Both starting bigs shoot under 40%. In a weak Western conference are still good enough to hold down a playoff spot at this point(would get homecourt in the first round).
(16) - Dallas Mavericks - Allow 114ppg, which is 3rd worst in the League. A team that doesn't defend passing lanes well as opposing offenses avg over 27 apg. Richardson has been fantastic in his career year. Inefficient big men. One of the better rebounding teams around.
(13) - Denver Nuggets - Still riddled with injuries but are finding a way to remain competitive. Efficient offensively and especially from behind the arc(40%). Avging 14tpg which is an issue. Trouble defending the 3pt line where teams hit at a 45% clip.
(11) - Boston Celtics - Who would have thought? Celts are playing some good ball and are over .500 after 26 games. Strong defensive effort has allowed them to be competitive. Allow 102ppg on only 42.8% shooting.
(18) - Indiana Pacers - Still trying to figure things out in Indy. Brand and Tmac seem to be improving which is what needs to happen. Both still only shooting around 42%. 2nd worst rebounding team in the league, 50per game. Recently acquired Kirk Hinrich is avging over 11.2 assists per game.
(17) - Utah Jazz - Kmart still out for awhile and now Pierce is injured. A team that gets out rebounded most nights. Solid efficiency on offense with special thanks to Louis Williams and Jamont Gordon. Both guys are shooting around 50%.
(26) - Portland Trailblazers - A team that doesn't share the ball, at all. Lowest apg avg in the league at 21 per. Struggling with offensive efficiency. Point guard play isn't pleasing. Holding down last playoff spot in the West.
(6) - Phoenix Suns - The good? Efficient on offense(45.3%). Three 20ppg scorers. Share the ball well(26apg) The bad? Lead the league in TO's at 14.9 per game. Low scoring team that doesn't rebound well. Low FG attempts and makes.
(19) - LA Lakers - Playing well with limited talent. Steele and Mercer are producing in starting roles. Shard doesn't appear to be finished after all. Laimbeer only shooting 37% from the field. Worst shot blocking team in the league(4.5per game).
(22) - Seattle Supersonics - New moves are raising hopes. Rebounding and shotblocking still an issue. Low fg attempts and makes. If team can gel, should be able to turn things around and make the playoffs. Sir Sid looks great while Caracter is only shooting 40%.
(14) - New York Knicks - Allow too many ppg and don't take care of the rock(14.6tpg). Attempt very few Ft's(21 per). Opponents are shooting over 46% from the field. Still share the ball well and are deadly from behind the arc.
(24) - New Jersey Nets - Statistically aren't too bad. Play in the East where wins are hard to come by. Inside play still weak although Podkolzine seems to be improving. 3pt land is well liked where they are the most efficient in the league(41.3%). Very poor FT shooting team. Bench needs to be more productive offensively. Two point guards?
(25) - LA Clippers - Underachieving. Only avging 99ppg. Poor rebounding and high TO's isnt a good combo. Dalembert and Amare are struggling. Woodson may be the best kept secret in the league.
(27) - Philadelphia 76ers - 6 double digit scorers is nice. Poor shotblocking team and inefficient offensively. Weak on the boards. Wade should help, next year.
(28) - Washington Wizards - Giving up over 111ppg. Opponents are shooting 46.7%. Trouble hitting from behind the arc(33%). Farmar and Melo are about the only ones earning their paychecks right now. Iverson was once a great player.
(23) - Miami Heat - Changes, changes and more changes. A team that gives up 116ppg. Yes, that is a
league worst. Poor rebounding team that teams have no trouble sharing the ball against. Giving up a league worst 47.4% from the field. Is it surprising teams also shoot 44% from behind the arc? They also happen to lead the league in fouls per game. Ok, Ill stop now.
(20) - Sacramento Kings - Hoping for good fortune in the next draft.
(29) - San Antonio Spurs - Hoping for a few great drafts.
