Here is a closer look at some of the recent blockbuster trades made.
Boston-Chicago:
Boston Gets: Chris Webber-Omerhodzic-Memphis 06 1rst
Chicago Gets: Alonzo Mouring-Chris Paul-Celtics 08 1rst
What does this do for Boston?
It gives them a go to guy in Chris Webber. Chris Paul is a inconsistant rookie and Skitti is better suited as a second or third opition. Webber allows everyone to do less.
What does this do for Chicago?
They add a tough defenseive center in Alonzo Mouring. Chris Paul is gonna be a great point there in the future. He can afford to be a rookie in Chicago with Lebron and McGrady in the backcourt. This makes Chicago competitive for the future. The 08 1rst could be a good pick but Boston is going to try and not let that happen.
Golden State-Chicago
Golden State Gets: Dirk Nowitzki
Chicago Gets: Emeka Okafor-Qyntel Woods-2007 Warriors 1rst
What does this do for Golden State?
Golden State made a big move in acqiuring Dirk. He adds that "other" superstar they have been lacking. Dirk is an all star player. They lose Okafor but he wont be missed with Nene there. Woods was useless in Golden State until now as he has saw none to slim playing time.
What does this do for Chicago?
It helps them build for the future. Now way they were going to keep all 4 superstar free agents. Emeka is gonna be huge along with Paul and Lebron for the future. Woods has A potentiol and could add to that future trio. The pick isn't worth much being the Warriors but it looks good on paper for Chicago.
Nets-Bulls
Nets Get: Tim Duncan
Bulls Get: Yao Ming-Brandon Rush
What does this do for the Nets?
It gives them a much needed change. Yao wasn't working there and Duncan is a fantastic player to have. It set them up for a even bigger move though later on.
What does this do for the Bulls?
Not for sure. Both Yao and Duncan are free agents after this season and Duncan is better than Yao, although Yao is younger and has more potentiol this doesn't cut the Bulls major free agents down any and doesn't improve them dramaticly on the court. Although Rush will be great for them in the future.
Boston-Detroit
Boston Gets: Bonzi Wells
Detroit Gets: Josh Howard-Jahadi White-Lakers 06 2nd-Grizzles 07 2nd.
What does this do for Boston?
It gives them another scorer along with Webber and Skitti. Bonzi is a guy who can score on a nightly basis and will be a big help to Webber. Winston could hit the rookie wall so Wells allows him to do just that.
What does this do for Detroit?
It gives them a defenseive ace. With so many scorers they really need a defenseive stopper like Howard. The picks probably wont do much for them though. White adds depth at center.
Boston-Houston
Boston Gets: Bobby Jackson-Matt Nelson-Jason Collins
Houston Gets: Luciouis Harris-Deron Williams-Jarred Jefferies
What does this do for Boston?
It gives them yet another scorer and veteran to play with Webber and Wells. Bobby can start and play good minuates. He can score or distribute. Losing Luciouis and Jefferies clears some of the swingmen out a little bit too.
What does this do for Houston?
Cap. They traded Jackson, signed for 2 more seasons, Nelson, minnium salary signed 1 more season. They got 3 players who have expiering contracts. Plus they needed a change.
Knicks-Nets
Knicks Get: Tim Duncan-Mariuce Taylor-Michael Doleac-Kedrick Brown-Derek Fisher-2008 1rst
Nets Get: Shaqiule O'Neal-Ron Artest-Trevor Ariza-Rodney Rogers-Kings 2005 2nd
What does this do for the Knicks?
It gives them a change in player scenary. Something had to be done as the current players suprisingly were not getting it done in the Big Apple. Hopefully Duncan will bring some new energy, a revoluition to New York becuase they need it.
What does this do for the Nets?
Very simple, it gives them 2 superstars for one. They become competitive this year. Shaq down low and Artest defending is awesome for them. This is a huge step in the winning cycle for the Nets.
A Peak Into The Future:
What to expect from who.
Boston- I would expect them to deal Gordan Gireick and Karrem Rush. They are looking to get some expiering deals. Also balance out the roster a little bit too.
New Jersey- They do not have a point guard to put it nicely. They have to move Carmelo Anthony more than ever now. Rose can step into his place anyways and if they can get say Chris Paul for example they will be in great shape. But almost any point guard is an upgrade over there current. [Nothing personal either.]
New York- Lets just say there is a reason Tim Duncan is the only player on Jeff's signature. They need everything Tim Duncan doesn't give them. They have good pieces though, Billups is a good player and Marshall has some value if he were traded.
Los Angelse Lakers- They have to have something up their sleeve. The team has underachived for whatever reason. Vince Carter better start selling his house in Beverly Hills because pretty soon one would think he is going to have to find a new home in a new town.
Sacramento- They are one of the more active teams in the transaction market so you know they are always up to something. I would not be suprised to see Sam Cassell go packing with his age going up and play going down. Cassell hurts them defenseively with Andre Miller in the backcourt so a true two guard could be the answer. Could Sam Cassell find his way to LA with Vince Carter heading to Sacramento? It makes sense but LA would want more.
Boston-Chicago:
