- Minnesota Timberwolves - Highest winning percentage out of the gate. Holding opponents to a measly 93ppg which is tops in the league. Also the lowest scoring team(97.2ppg) and have benefited from a light early season schedule. Still, with a .750 winning percentage, they are on top for now.
- Orlando Magic - Best in the East and a popular selection to win it all. This team boasts two 25ppg scorers and is tops in blocks per game. Also second in scoring at just over 113ppg.
- Detroit Pistons - Undefeated at home. Among the leagues best in rebounds and blocks per game. Jermaine O'Neal is healthy and rolling. Also have some guy named Kobe who is still pretty good.
- Golden State Warriors - Second in the West. A very talented team that doesn't have problems scoring but they are allowing 108ppg. Efficient on offense(shooting over 45% as a team).
- Milwaukee Bucks - The reigning champs are off to a good start. Magic is the man in Milwaukee but Andray Blatche is quickly becoming a superstar. Strong defensive team that can also score.
- Phoenix Suns - After underachieving last season, the Suns are playing well to start the year. This team possesses three 20ppg scorers and shoots over 46% from the field. Dominant duo of Ming and Cartwright lead the way.
- Chicago Bulls - Good start for a new look Bulls team. Strength is on the perimeter where Artest, Green and Davis all avg over 2 steals per game. Interior presence a concern. Solid bench play is a plus.
- Atlanta Hawks - Contributions from everyone has led to a 7-5 start. Young wings, Kevin Branch and Rudy Gay shoulder the scoring load. Not the toughest schedule thus far. Dangerous 3pt shooting team(46% from downtown).
- New Orleans Hornets - Possess a strong inside/outside game. Main guns are very efficient and they get production in all areas. Depth is a concern. Mayo's breakout year?
- Toronto Raptors - Tough schedule to start the season. Good production in most areas, led by 35 year old Tim Duncan. Tops in rebounding at 61 boards per game. Still working the kinks out of the new system.
- Boston Celtics - Surprisingly good start for the Celts. Led by the impressive backcourt play of Washington and Aguirre who are both 20+ppg scorers.
- Cleveland Cavaliers - Boast a great, young threesome of Oden, McRoberts and Gordon. Highest scoring team in the league at 115ppg but also allow 114ppg. Team philosophy is clearly to outscore the opposition. Gordon is legit.
- Denver Nuggets - A team that relies on balanced scoring(7 players averaging double digits). Also possess the leagues top scorer in Sean Banks(29ppg). Capable rebounding team that also creates turnovers and blocks shots. The injury bug is alive and well in the Mile High city(Rondo and Johnson out 40+).
- New York Knicks - Four 20ppg scorers. Very unselfish team that moves the ball well on offense(lead the league in assists per game at 29). Most efficient offense(47.6%). Rebounding and turnovers are two early season concerns.
- Houston Rockets - A team with talent struggling to find its stride. All starters average in double figures but no shot blocking presence and assists per game are low. Should be better than they are.
- Dallas Mavericks - Mavs new acquisition Quentin Richardson is averaging 28ppg on 48% shooting. Unfortunately production from everyone else has been mediocre. Playing above themselves. With that said, they are still 6-6 and would make the playoffs at this point in time.
- Utah Jazz - Another .500 Western Conference team. Kmart is out for a while with Patella Tendinitis which hurts(just ask the Pistons). Louis Williams is having a breakout year and the rest of the team is producing. Strength has been the 3 point line where the team is shooting 43%.
- Indiana Pacers - Brand and Tmac are both struggling early on. Point guard play leaves alot to be desired. Supporting cast has been good but not great. Team needs to focus on rebounding the ball and playing some defense. Among leagues worst in rebounding and opponents ppg.
- LA Lakers - Solid start for the rebuilding Lakers. Not the most talented team but finding a way to win games. Don't turn the ball over much(10.7 turnovers per game is best in the league). Lack of scoring talent makes it hard to get to the free throw line.
- Sacramento Kings - Who is on the roster this week? The Kings are another team that possess 3 20ppg scorers. Perimeter based team that is tops in the league at creating turnovers(15 per game). Arguably the leagues most explosive backcourt. Also arguably the leagues worst collection of big men. Ben Wallace is still good at 37 but can only play one position at a time.
- Memphis Grizzlies - Only allow 96ppg. Only score 97ppg. Don't attempt many shots. Gordon and Perovic carry the scoring load but need help. Unfortunately, Lewis appears to be on the decline.
- Seattle Supersonics - Among leagues best in steals per game. Scoring has been a concern even with Bron leading the way. Three starters are shooting 40% from the field or less. No shot blocking presence.
- Miami Heat - Led by a strong duo of Bosh and Durant. Recently acquired veteran point Chauncey Billups could be the missing piece. Defense is a concern, allowing 112ppg. A team the takes care of the rock.
- New Jersey Nets - Talented, young backcourt. Could use some help down low where Podkolzine and Bailey have been unimpressive. Even with good point guard talent this is a team that doesn't share the ball well.
- LA Clippers - Franchise player Isiah Thomas is off to a rough start. He is leading the league in turnovers per game(3.9) and isn't showing good efficiency on offense. Meanwhile, Mike Woodson is having a breakout year, shooting over 50% from the field. Dalembert and Amare have been steady but unspectacular. Overall, not enough scoring or defense.
- Portland Trailblazers - Inefficient offensively, shooting only 40% from the field. A team with low turnovers that doesn't create many either. A younger team with good potential.
- Philadelphia 76ers - Solid looking front court to go along with some seasoned perimeter talent. A weak rebounding team. Not a great passing team. Some nice pieces to compete with but not ready yet.
- Washington Wizards - A team on the downswing. Giving up 110ppg while only scoring 99ppg. Iverson, Nene and Farmar are all struggling. Inefficient offensively. Perhaps it's time to rebuild?
- San Antonio Spurs - Speaking of rebuilding...
