sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2035132JO thinks so. Hard for me to question the validity of it, being the players this rule affects are black about 95% of the time. I dont like the age limit for 1 main reason, and that is, some players can make the jump from HS. And others can make the jump after 1 year of college. This seems to be a tactic to protect NBA teams from investing millions of dollars in players that cant or wont develop. What NBA teams need to do is scout and develop players better, instead of giving them rules to protect themeselves.

Ok, after watching the JO interview on ESPN I understand why he said what he said. He was asked if he thinks the age limit is race driven.
Now, he wants to know why they want an age limit. BTW I love the fact that he is passionate about players not even in the league, black or white.
Anyways this is why I think they want an age limit, also why I want an age limit.
For one, teams are playing top dollars for potentiol. In turn fans are paying for potentiol. How happy do you think the Bulls fans have been since Jordan left to go to the United Center and watch Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler. The Wizards fans have had to watch Kwame Brown. I personally am not confident that these players can not develope and won't, but the fact of the matter is their teams suffer. Teams who need productive players, not that other "P" word potentiol players.
Also, they pointed out on NBA Nation that the last 2 rookies of the year has been high schoolers. 1. Amare Stoudamire was 19 when he came into the league and 20 by the end of his first season. Not only that he was already very physically strong. Lebron James was very strong physically and just a one in a centuary player in any sport for a high schooler.
Also notice that alot of the players making jump to the pros from high school are stronger. Lebron, Amare, Dwright are all in the 240 pound range. TMac, KG, Kobe, and JO were what? In the 180-220 pound range? Big diffrence.
Not only the high schoolers, but the foreginers. What one other than Yao has made a productive impact? I can not think of any off the top of my head. All the foregin under 20 year old recent rookies have been pretty weak I might add though.
I do not think this is about putting a lid on oppurtonity. I think that this is simply trying to stop all of these players who are not ready to come into the league and who do not belong here from coming here. Shaun Livingston, J.R. Smith, Josh Smith, KG, TMac, Kobe, JO, Kwame, Tyson, Eddy Curry, Dorell Wright, Pavel, Peter Ramos, Skitti, Zarko, Qyntel Woods, Travis Outlaw, Ndudi Ebi, Kendrick Perkins, Macije Lampe, Bostjan Nachbar, Sagana Diop, Darius Miles, I think I will stop there.
Also I may point out that there is no way there should be an age limit without a minor league where players can get paid a decent salary, say 50000-100000. College is not for everyone, I repeat college is not for everyone. And the NBA isn't for everyone who college isn't for. Some players need the money, some players need the time to develope.
