A couple weeks after their first round exit, it looks like the phoenix suns are ready to reload and start building for next season. "We really gelled together at the end of last season despite some major moves before the playoffs." Phoenix cornerstone player Regge Theus said at a recent team press conference. "I honestly believe that this team is a couple moves away from being a contender next season."
Apparently GM Tony Rea feels that way too as trade speculation involving center Yao Ming have popped up during this years draft. Many thought Yao would be dealt before the deadline so the suns could aqquire a better point guard presence for the home stretch and potential playoffs. But it was SF Shawn Marion who was traded to Sacramento for Bill Cartwright, and SG Nolan Smith. The suns also traded a first rounder, which was eventually sent from the kings to philedelphia. The kings ended up drafting pg Fat Lever, a prospect that phoenix had been eyeing for a while.
"I knew we risked trading away the potential to draft Lever but the oppurtunity to aqquire such great talent before they hit they're primes is something you dont pass on." Rea said about that trade scenario.
It looks like phoenix may now get that pg in lever. Trade speculation about phoenix sending Ming to sac-town in exchange for lever have been reported. As of now the salaries dont match up but recent activity in sacramento might suggest that theyre trying to aqquir pieces for the potential trade.
It has aslo been rumored that phoenix is interested in boston guard Darius Washington. Phoenix has repoterdly thrown Sergio Rodriguez and Ming on the table in exchange for the young guard.
Either way if Phoenix is able to add one of these players vie trade look for them to be a legitamite contender for atleast the Western Conference title next season.
Read next week about why next season will be Reggie Theus's breakout season.
