Talks Over O'Neal Are Heating Up July 9 Los Angeles Times (registration required): "As of Thursday night, NBA sources said, the Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers and Miami Heat were making the strongest pushes to acquire O'Neal. The Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki, the Pacers' Jermaine O'Neal and Heat's Dwyane Wade were not part of any offers, insiders said, and it is possible the first team to come off its untouchable player gets Shaq."
Ive read Odom,Grant and a first, seems like a reasonable deal for the Heat.
Shaq Haslem Butler Jones Wade
As for the Lakers, Kobe and Odom seem like a nice athletic duo, although the immediately drop from a top 3 team in the west to a top 6 team in the West IMO.

Miami should not be after Shaq.
They are looking for athletes and Shaq is not one. He is very good and very dominate but he does not fit in with there style. The team they have now has chemistry and you do not mess with chemistry. They don't need Shaq or a big star right now. They do need to sign a solid big man like Stromile Swift. They do not need to and should not trade for Shaqiule O'Neal.
Of course that is just my opinion. I would have thought the Heat would have saw that you need a team that plays together and a team with great chemistry to win in this league. Maybe they missed the finals?

Wade Jones and Shaq are an automatic 50 win team. Its great to build with athletes, but the Diesel gets you to the finals.

Shaq would not get the Heat past the Pistons because the Pistons are a better team. Teams hang banners, not players.
Lakers would be good. Odom is a newer verison of Magic. Feel sorry for him though because he signed with Miami to be there a long time and now he could possiably be traded.

I doubt Odom will be upset to go to the Lake Show and play with Kobe. The Lakers after the trade of Shaq are still a batter team then the Heat were last year. Odom Caron and Kobe will be a good team, and will be exciting to watch.
As for Detroit versus Miami, I think itll be close. Obviously the Pistons already showed they can beat a team led by Shaq, but I feel as though The Diesel may be playing with a little more prupose this year.

I heard Lakers also have interest in the Heats first round pick this year who was Dorell Wright and they might take Bulter out and add him instead.

shaq going to miami, i think was a really good trade for the heat. they get a man that nobody can really handle in the east. nobody can stop him in the eastern conference, maybe ben and the pistons but thats it. shaq can bring u to the finals but getting shaq is also a gamble. i think the heat are gambling their future with this deal. and its always good to get rid of a center like brian grant whos waay overpaid. as for the lakers. i dont think they shopped hard enough. maybe getting some stars from dallas would've been better. now their team looks like this grant odom butler kobe-(if he re-signs) gp they look real small. and in the west you gotta be big to cover guys like dirk nowitzki, peja etc. this team is definetly better if they had shaq

Well supposedly GP will demand a trade. Seems like Dampier would be a good fit for the Lakers at center, but who besides Odom would the Warriors want?

Shaq is gona dominate the east, if he stays in the East he'll last longer. if he decides after his contract is over to go back to the west, he wont last as long, remember this guy is 32.
