Is it me or are there a LOT of 1st picks being given up due to cap penalties? I think this needs to be looked at as some teams are spending a lot more than others yet they all face the same penalty.

i was thinking upping the digits....so there would be less 1st round pick forfeiting. salaries keep climbing as more and more extensions are given.

I think if anything penalties should be more harsh. I'd advocate that teams way over lose the best pick they own instead of one at their choice.

Im not saying No penalties..but giving teams picks for "bad decisions"...or an "inability to put a winning team together" penalizes GMs for building good teams...which in order to keep together requires spending $$.
If half the teams in the league are forfeiting picks....where are you supposed to dump your contracts? Everyone is over the cap already, aside from 1 or 2 teams.
A number of teams are already guaranteed to be forfeiting picks for next year and the season hasnt even started...
Raising the penalty barriers follows in line with LEAGUE spending and gives teams a chance to maybe get under.

I think that there needs to be a restriction on how far you can go into the future as far as forfeiting picks. I see 2019 picks being forfeited and we are only on the 2012 draft. I mean, these picks could easily be lottery because no one knows how good they'll be in 7 years, but being over the cap for a season needs to have more of an immediate impact (within the next 3 seasons) in my opinion. Plus, the number of teams owing picks may just soon be all of us in a while if we keep using our one max a year to extend our star players that we either draft or build a franchise with.
Just my two cents. -Scott
