State of the Team Address
As president of the Atlanta Hawks I would like to address you all on the well being of the franchise. This is a report that will sum up the direction we are going with the franchise and hopefully fill you in on any questions you may have. We will also give each player an assessment on how they are doing, and if they will be staying around.
Ben Wallace and Ray Allen on Trade Block
I was not dependent on trading either one of these players. I was simply testing out the market and seeing what I could get for these two all-stars. I saw a few offers that got my attention but none made me jump the gun and trade my building blocks. Ray and Ben also made it very hard for me to trade them. They have led my team to a 4-0 record and have put up sensational stats since I labeled them on the “block”.
Ben Wallace 8.5ppg 17.5rpg 5.75bpg
Ray Allen 23.75ppg 7.25rpg 4.25apg
Upcoming Free Agency
I was concerned with the upcoming off season because of how many free agents we have. Three of our five starters and eight total players are free agents after this season. Ben Wallace, Ray Allen, and Troy Murphy are the three most important free agents that I am concerned with. One of the reasons I was testing the market was because that Ben Wallace and Ray Allen both could want maximum offers. After I looked over the offers I decided that the best thing to do was offer them both contracts and hope to get some luck. I have made offers to both Ray Allen and Ben Wallace and it is reported we should hear back by the end of the week from their agents and the league council. These are the offers that I sent to the league office and the agents…<br>Ben Wallace
Year 1: 9,500,000
Year 2: 10,640,000
Year 3: 12,236,000
Year 4: 14,071,400
Ray Allen
6 years Maximum Amount for 1st year 5% increases
Troy Murphy has been a tremendous part of our team but I feel we have to part ways with him at the end of the season. I was really impressed when we had Shaq and Troy was tearing it up scoring 15 points a game and also grabbing 10 boards a game. Since we traded Shaq his numbers have pummeled into the ground. There is no way I can match the salary he is already making if he is only going to put up 8 and 8. I hope Troy find a new home and I wish him the best of luck.
I will have to wait to find out what other players I am resigning. Zaza Pachulia and Kevin Martin could be the only other players I consider resigning.
Future Trades
I am seriously looking into moving Bonzi Wells. Many teams need swingmen who could provide them a punch of offense to help out their star. With the emergence of Hakim Warrick, I do not believe I need Bonzi Wells. He is putting up 12 points a game along with 7 rebounds a game in very reasonable minutes. Bonzi could be the perfect second option for any team struggling with scoring. He has a reasonable contract and is looking for a new home.
Evaluation
Ben Wallace- Ben is 32 years old and still hasn’t declined. He is having one of his best seasons as a pro and may be in the prime of his career. With his endless hours of work on his offensive game he is finally starting to reap what he sowed. Ben is having his first double-double season with 10.2 ppg and 14.2 rpg. Ben is leading the league in RPG and BPG. He has been a great mentor to young players like Zaur, David and Jamie.
Grade: A+
Troy Murphy-Troy Murphy has seen a drop off in numbers since Shaq left town. He has been putting up decent games but I am not impressed with what he is doing. He has not been playing up to his potential and that is hurting his chances of getting resigned. He is going to have to step it up if he wants to be back in Hotlanta next season. Numbers haven’t been terrible, just not up to his potential.
Grade:C+
Bonzi Wells- Bonzi has stepped in and provided a decent third threat that makes are team hard to cover. Just when they think they have Ray and Ben contained Bonzi can knock down a few shots to open up the offense. I am kind of upset about Bonzi’s shooting percentages, but none the less he is playing decent.
Grade: B-
Ray Allen- This man is having arguably the best season of his career. Ray Allen is lighting it up from downtown, shooting jus about as good from three land as he does for field goals. I am glad Ray is stepping up and being the leader that this team needs on the offensive end.
Grade: A-
Ben Gordon- Most improved player is calling Ben’s name… He averaged just about 8 and 4 as a rook is a disappointing season. Players drafted in the second round were beating him in all statistical categories. Ben now is averaging 19.4 ppg along with 4.2apg and 4.0 rpg in jus 31 minutes. If he played 40-43 minutes a night he could be getting 23, 6 and 6. He is one of the most well rounded gaurds in the NBA and he is only a sophomore. The best thing is he still has A potential.
Grade: A+
Hakim Warrick- This man has stepped up and taken so much responsibility on his shoulders. One of the reasons I like college seniors is because they can contribute immediately. Hakim is backing up the 3 and 4 positions and will earn a starting spot once Bonzi is dealt. He is averaging 8 and 7 in just 25 minutes, which is great for a low lottery pick rookie in BBS. He has A potential and very big dreams for next season.
Grade: A+
Overall
I am very impressed with my team and can’t wait for the playoffs.
