Welcome to the league kid!
Well after starting the season at 5-5, Denver made a move to go out and get highly recruited manager, Jeff Moroni to manage the team. “I’ve heard great things about this guy.” Jason Terry said at the press conference introducing Jeff to the team. He has been known to make players feel at home, inviting them to his home in Puerto Rico during the off-season. “I’m honored to be selected as general manager of this soon-to-be great franchise.”
He has already made a few deals already after joining the league Saturday. “I’m not very impressed with the players here at this time, but that is about to change.” Jeff said at the teams press conference. We will breakdown some of the deals he has done so far:
1. Denver gets: PG Chauncey Billups, C Kosta Perovic and SF Sergey Monya to the Nuggets
Detroit gets: PG Marcus Banks, C Brad Miller and SG Trenton Hassell
Breakdown:
Unclear on why they did this trade in the first place. They lost a good center in Miller and a solid back-up in Banks. In return they received a proven starter in Billups, but the problem is he won’t start in front of Jason Terry. “We have trade bait now” GM Jeff said in response on receiving Chauncey Billups. Later in the “breakdown” you’ll see where Billups finds himself at the end of the day. Overall this wasn’t a very good trade for Denver.
Grade: D+
2. Denver gets: C Chris Mihm, PF Stromile Swift, SF Josh Childress, SG Allan Houston, PG Eric Snow, SG Isma’il Muhammad
Utah gets: PG Chauncey Billups, SG Jason Richardson, PF Juwon Howard, PF Jeff Foster, SF Ivan Chiriaev, PG Raul Lopez
Breakdown:
When you look at this trade on paper it looks very bad for Denver, but look at the stats then you’ll understand why the Nuggets accepted this. Denver was in desperate need of a center and they received 2 of them, Chris Mihm and center/power forward, Stromile Swift. Childress is an up and coming project along with Paul Davis. Allan Houston is doing well at 20+ppg and only has 2 years on his contract. Eric Snow was a nice pick-up as well because of his nice defense that he displays on the court. Still loosing Billups and Richardson hurts, but then again Denver received more than enough for them.
Grade: B+
3. Denver gets: SF Rashard Lewis and C Lorenzen Wright
Toronto gets: C Kosta Perovic, SF Sean Banks, PF Anderson Varejao, SF Sergey Monya
Breakdown:
Great move for Denver receiving a go-to-scorer in Rashard Lewis. They dealt a good young player in Banks, then again Lewis is a 15+ppg every night. Expect Denver to do a little better now with a good scorer in Lewis. Terry-Houston-Lewis-Swift-Mihm isn’t too shabby of a line-up right now. Still they could get a better center or start Paul Davis and let him get some solid playing time. All-in-all a great deal for Lewis.
Grade: A
