How teams can continue to not make moves as they finish at or below .500 is amazing. Some GMs, not alot, have done nothing except sit back and wait for other people to make "their" team better. Being in a sim league is about being proactive, and a few GMs just arent being proactive.
Id like everyone that is currently in the league to stay, but its frustrating when guys just kinda go along and dont participate to the fullest of their abilities.
Dustin is stepping aside after this season, and although I like Dustin alot, he has never been a super active member. I think hes gotten to the point where he realized another person would get more enjoyment out of the league then he would, or does.
Reeve is someone who although has talent, cant seem to win. His team has been essentially the same for the last 5 years, adding talent only through the draft. At some point deals need to be made to get them over the hump.
Ive had many run ins with Jeremy to try and motivate him to be more active, and recently he has been more proactive.
Certain GMs that have always been super active have recently fell off in their activity. CJ, Danny, Tom, Chris are all less active then they used to be, all for varying reasons. I would certainly hope that they still enjoy the league and want to continue, but I also hope they would know when they reach being too inactive.
Newer guys like Basketface, Pig, NYMetalThug, still seem to be trying to figure out the whole sim league thing, and have been kinda hesitant to make lots of deals.
Its a fine line between friendships and whats best for the league. Ive had to ask many people to leave BBS because they werent giving me what I needed activity wise. And alot of those people dont talk to me now. I spend lots of time on this sim league, and I expect a good amount of time if you wanna be apart of it.
Im not specifically signaling anyone out, but once again Id like to bring it to everyones attention how important activity ties to your status in the league. If you arent winning, you should be trying to get better. And if you are winning, you should be trying to win more.

Well I won't deny it, my activity has been literally "non-existent" this season. For a various amount of reasons a)bored with this league some b)laziness c)much less time now, school and work have been crazy as of late. Nonetheless, I think it would have been best for me to not have continued as GM this season. Though, in fairness to the league and everyone else, I'm going to finish out the season, TRY to do what I can with this team so the lucky(or unlucky) person who becomes the new SpursGM has a decent team to work with it. You can tell I'm both bored and lazy with this league, cuz remember that "big" article I was going to write? haha, well, that's back on the shelf... I think my boredom is mostly due in part with all these retro players... I liked it at first, but now, it's kinda like, eh. I liked it much more when player ratings were based on real life NBA statistics, but in all reality you can only do that for so long before it becomes impossible. The only way I see myself coming back next season is maybe as a different GM(doubtful) or if the league starts over as new(unlikely for many reasons, I know Spence that would take a HUGE amount of time for you, and I'm sure many people would vote against it). That goes without saying though that this is probably the longest I've lasted in ANY sim league (whether it be because it closed down, or I just got bored with it). Anyways, I'll try getting my lazy ass to produce something around here. Hey, I might even write that article!

You know I give 110% in this league Spencer. I have school, work, and still have the time to be super active. Why can't everyone else? Not sayin' you guys should be like me, but like c'mon, we're missing activity from people here who used to be super active!

I cant wait for players like MJ, Barkley, Hakeem, Mullin, Hardaway. Chris if you do quit, Ill probably take your team.

Seems like work and school have caught up with alot of us, and obviously that will always come first. Most people have at least 1 other sim league they are in, and pay attention to. This draws guys away. There are a ton of sims out, and lots of guys are in multiple sims. I do the best I can to make this sim the best out there. I cant expect 1200 posts from everyone, but I can certainly expect more then 150.

I was going to note that the new crop of players on its way is going to add excitement. This seems like a bit of a down year in some ways, but I don't see why some guys can't be a bit more proactive. I feel a near-obligation to be active considering the amount of time Spence puts in, but I also have a lot of fun in doing so. Maybe the problem is that it's not as fun for everyone.

A couple things to note. I think that I'm the biggest turn around this league has seen. Not record-wise, but activity-wise. With Portland, I didn't really participate. Early on with NO, I didn't really participate. What has gotten me so into it was having two friends in it. I think that's key. Also, this is the only league I'm in, so it's the only thing I have to focus on. Also key.

Well thats the thing. I hope to have the league become something people wanna check every day. Not just for the sims, but for the bantar. I kinda wish Danny a little for that. When he wasnt at school he was always good for bantar. Even Manas was good for that.

The bantar would be good from you 3 as well, but it isnt needed. I know the 3 of you want to win badly, and it shows whenever we talk about the league.

I hope I can add some new activity to the league. I felt I was always pretty active in the league with the Hawks and made atleast 1 deal a week and posted every day and wrote numerous articles. I hope that i can continue that and even step it up and it would be sweet to have everyone do it. Although that is not feasable in a sim league, cuz all 29 gm's will never all be active. I hope that the new players spark interest though, but it doesnt in me cuz I dont know many of them.

And here I clicked on this thread thinking that Spence was reporting the results of his longitudinal study in which he proves that there is, in fact, a direct correlation between GM activity and team mediocrity. How disappointing...

Wow no one mentioned me I guess, Im never to be mentioned in this category lol. like C.C., and before most of you guys besides Spencer, I have always tried my best to keep the moral of the gms, especailly on the older gms I have grown good buds with up and goign strong, I have been super busy having a pre-mature baby, wife with C-Section, plus working more then fulltime for my job, Im just lucky with my work I have access to AIM all the time aroudn the clock now. but Im very excited to see the new older crop of players coming around in the sim. I no Im older then most of you and have seen majority of these players that got me interested in BBall, so its very exciting for me to have the chance to add them to my roster. If any of you new guys need help or advice Ill always be here to help you out.

I realize I deserve to be pointed out in this post, and in every league I have been in, I have been one of the least likely in said league to make trades, it's just the way I am.
I really will try to be more active, my trade block will be updated today, as I am tired of this same thing for 5 years, except the year the Clips made it as the 4 seed of course.
But trading is only a part of it. Even though I don't post alot, I do come to the forum every day and check it out, I will try to make more contributions to the threads.

i know for sure my activity has dropped off but expect it to go back up now.
Im on the boards possibley more than anyone, and that includes Spencer, dont always post but im here.
Unfortunately AIM wont connect for some reason so i have to use e-messenger which is unreliable and slow at the best of times but ill sign in as often as possible from now on.
In terms of trading i dont make as many now because i dont really feel im in need at any position. I think positions 1 through 5 and 1 through 5 on my bench are solid. However there are a few players that have been placed on blocks i might pursue.
I'll be on AIM plenty over this weekend i would imagine.

Going to school is a big thing, and everything is new. As you get used to things Im sure youll figure out how to get on the forum more often. I also dont think AIM is necessary. The PM system on the forum should be able to handle any trade talk that is done.

i think i'm starting to get the hang of this but i'm just starting to get niche of my team. I don't think I had a shot at the championship so i decided to retool. i look forward to these players developing and watching them grow. As far as my activity I'm trying to be more active. I'm trying to post as much as I can but I will try more.

Hey, I know I sorta fall into this category.
I think I've been more active lately, but as I'm sure Spence can vouch from other leagues, I'm better at building a team through FA and the draft, rather than trade like crazy. Especially with the NBA rules making it almost impossible to just swap one or two guys for each other (always seems to need to be a throw in, and often times these are decent players as well).
Maybe after a season or two with the new FA rules, things will change, but as it is, it is difficult to sign players b/c they often take the biggest contract.
I've considered stepping down at several points. That said, my plan as of now is to keep pursuing deals, get a top 3 draft pick, make an offseason deal or two, and see what happens next year. If my team doesn't improve, next season may be my last.
I know being "active" is important to the league, I just hope some of you realize that making a ton of trades isn't necessarily "improving" your team.

Activity isnt about trading. Trading to trade is bad. I more concerned with teams that just stagnate. Either your rebuilding or your competing, there really is no in between. I want each GM to pick a direction and go with it. Develop a style of play and determine what type of players you like, and go after them.
Your team can always be better, and I really dislike when guys just kinda sit and dont make moves. Even lineup changes show activity. Ive seen 15-20 game improvements on just lineups changes.
Tweak stuff. Change your pace. Get a better backup PG. There are so many ways that guys can be more active, and make their teams better.
