Bulls Acquire Shawne Williams From LA Lakers
Williams was the 5th pick overall in the 2007 BBS Draft; now joins Hansbrough and Bynum as former top 10 lottery selections from 2007 BBS Draft
The Chicago Bulls have acquired Shawne Williams from the LA Lakers for Darrell Arthur, it was announced today by General Manager C.C. Christian.
“Shawne Williams gives us another long, athletic player who has become a very good scorer, rebounder, and defender in his young career,” said General Manager C.C. Christian. “His versatility on both ends of the floor is a perfect fit for our system.”
In only his third BBS season, the former Bucks’ first round pick (5th overall) in the 2007 BBS Draft had his best season averaging 11.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, and shooting 46% from the field in 34.5 minutes in all 82 games with the Kings in 2009-10.
Williams averaged 9.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 44% from the field in his three-year career with the Milwaukee Bucks, Sacramento Kings, and Miami Heat/LA Lakers. A 6-9 forward, Williams posted a career-high 25 points, 16 rebounds, 6 assists, and 6 steals during his sophmore season with the Sacramento Kings. Now Williams (5th overall selection) joins Hansbrough (4th overall, selected before Williams) and Bynum (8th overall) as former top 10 lottery selections from the 2007 BBS Draft.
"We are happy that Williams will continue his development as a Bull. He is a quality young man and has considerable upside," Bulls General Manager C.C. Christian said. “Shawne has the potential to be a good inside scorer, rebounder, and defender in the future. We look forward to having him for the rest of the season, and injury-free, where he can showcase his talents and be a significant part of our team. We look forward to continuing the progress we have this year, and Shawne is an elaborate part of that."
