Memphis Daily News- Late Sunday night, Grizzlies owner and team president Galo Pesantes announced the firing of head coach Rick Carlisle after 16-33 record through 49 games this season. "Coach Carlisle simply was not getting the job done as the leader of this basketball team", said Pesantes. "The team is simply not performing to standards after compiling so much talent this off-season and throughout the duration of this year. We thank him for his time here but we are looking towards the future now", said Pesantes.
Carlisle is out, Miller is in as head coach of the Grizzlies
Carlisle guided the Grizzlies to two straight playoff appearances in the last two seasons. Last year, the Grizzlies marked the second time being knocked out of the playoffs by the same team in Minnesota Timberwolves. Nevertheless, this season has been a complete disaster for the Grizzlies on the court as they are franchise low 17 games under .500.
"A major change was needed here but we are not done", said Pesantes. Drastic changes are expected from Grizzlies camp as legendary player and GM Jerry West will be remolding this team by rebuilding from the bottom up. "Some people will be staying and some people will be going", West added when asked about players are expected to be moved.
Last but not least, Memphis Daily News has learned that Reggie Miller will be named the new head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies. "We are happy to bring someone like Reggie [Miller] to this organization. He has the experience and tenacity to bring this team to the next level", said Pesantes.
"Im happy to be here", said Miller. "I think this team has the potential to be great and Im happy that Mr. Pesantes and Mr. West have entrusted me to guide this team to sucess." Miller will take the helms of the team officially in his first game against the Mavericks at home Tuesday night.
