Im gonna devise a system where Gms can acquire "points" which can buy them rating increases. Im not exactly sure of the rules just yet, but here is what the basic idea is.....
1 point per post. Ill right down the amount of posts each GM has at the end of the year, so I can calculate how many points a GM has accumulated for the whole year.
20 points for an article. You write an article of over 100 words, you get 20 points. This can include overviews of over 100 words.
For every 100 points you get a grade increase(C+ to B-, or B to B+ etc). Only restrictions are you can only increase a players once, and you cant increase a player higher then B+. Meaning, I dont want this system to create stars, I want it to be a small reward for activity.
This will run after the current years TC, based on the previous seasons points. Obviously this wouldnt start till 2010, and it will be based on 2009s points.

Get ready to see alot of crap being written then.
I may be alone, but I don't like it. I know you are trying to increase activity, but IMO, this isn't the way to do it.

This is exactly the way to do it. This encourages articles, overviews, trade breakdowns, ratings, polls, opinions, forum activity, and league activity. This will distinguish those that simply will be active once a month and those that can take the time to be active on a daily basis - even if that activity is to read what's happening in the league and post a reaction or two. Just out of curiosity, what would you propose to generate more league activity? It seems Spencer has consistently asked more out of certain teams and been almost consistently disappointed. If the tradeoff is an abundance of articles and opinions, I don't see a downside.

I thnik the idea is fine because we're all capable of doing it. 20 points for a banner is a good reward, but for people like me who have no artistic ability at all, we cannot do it. This stuff we can do.

Sounds like a pretty good idea. I'm all of more activity.
I have never used reward points in any other league, wasn't in them long enough for one thing haha.
I'm just anxious for someone else to write articles. ;D

I like the idea. It's always fun to see how creative people can be when writing articles.
Great idea, Spencer.

A suggestion for the suggestion.... not everyone should automatically get points for an article or w/e. If it's garbage, it shouldn't get any reward points or atleast less then let's say a "good" article should... it's not to hard to spot the difference between "trash" and "effort", so I'm not saying just cause an article isn't that great it's automatically garbage... if there's effort it should be rewarded.

I stated in the rules, it has to be worthy of the Insider. Which means if its shit, you get shit.

So now you are going to be a writing professor? Nice.
This is a basketball league. How your team "performs", shouldn't have anything to do with how well you write, or how much "extra" time you have. JMO.

So Jeremy, you dont like this idea?
I understand you have a dislike for this rule, but maybe concentrate a little more on fulfilling the things you need to do to run your team and make it better, and Ill play commish? Sound like a deal?

I understand you have a dislike for this rule, but maybe concentrate a little more on fulfilling the things you need to do to run your team and make it better, and Ill play commish? Sound like a deal? I'm doing just fine with my team, thanks. The league is fine the way it is, just not sure why you feel the need to up and change things. Especially making a change that pretty much necessitates owners contributing quite a bit more time to the league, just to stay competitive. I have a life outside this league, and while I enjoy the league, these new rules "may" either a) yield my team substandard if I can't devote significant more time, or b)cause me to leave. I know it is your league and you can do what you want. But what about bringing ideas like this to the owners for their opinions? Apparently "we" don't matter anymore.

Jeremy because you dont like it doesnt mean the owners dont. You are in the minority here, and in most things regarding the league.
You are active twice a year. During the draft, and during extensions. You take the full allotted time for your draft pick, and you wait till the last possible minute to put up extensions. Everything is on your timetable, with only your concerns and thoughts are met.
Dont speak for anyone but yourself Jeremy.
I think you are one of the most inactive owners in this sim, and this rule in part is to create activity.
And if you read the actual Reward Points rule, and understood it, youd realize it takes a lot of input to make a small change in a player.
As long as you conitnue to do things in your own damn sweet time, your opinion in how I run this league doesnt mean a whole lot to me. If you step up, and do things in a more timely fashion maybe my opinion will change.

Hey I just want to add something if you don't mind. Ideas like this does bring more activity and participation in a league. Trust me I've experienced it. It really worked out in another league I was in. The forum was crazy and the acitivty was locked on every day. Even the quiet GM's became active. This could work in this league. IMO, this is a great idea.

The more I think about this situation, the more annoyed I get at you. I spend many hours a week simming, and putting together the site, and what I want is activity from my owners. I dont think thats too much to ask. Its unfortunate that I need to give a reward for activity for certain GMs, but I think its a small price to pay to have the sim grow in an area that I want. You spend a total of about 2 hours a year on the forum, and I spend 5-8 hours a week on the league and I should take your opinion and run the league by it?

Jeremy because you dont like it doesnt mean the owners dont. You are in the minority here, and in most things regarding the league. If I'm in the minority, that is fine. My point was, maybe ideas like this should be bounced off of the owners. Maybe that way, you'd getter a better response when things "change". I may be in the minority, but I'm not alone on this. I'm plenty active. Just b/c I don't make a bunch of trades just for the sake of trading, doesn't mean I'm not active. You know from other leagues that I'm not one to panic, or sit around and trade just for the sake of trading. I check on my team DAILY. Take the allotted time for my draft picks? Since when? I picked Aleksandrov quickly, and I know I picked Ellis quickly. This past year my first pick wasn't until the live draft, so I made it ASAP as well. Don't bring "issues" from other leagues over here, cause in this case, it simply does not apply. Again, how so? Because I don't trade backup pg's for backup sg's once a week? I'm almost always available via AIM. Again, you know that I tend to "sit on" my teams and let them develop. I'm sorry, but this cracks me up. If you don't want to give me 5 hours to make my draft pick, THAN CHANGE THE RULE. I follow the rules of the league. Excuse me for having a life outside of sim leagues. I'm done with this discussion. I don't really like this rule, that is all I wanted to say.

When I brought up this rule, it was to bounce it off people. Thats why it was in the General area before it was in the rule area. But you probably didnt notice that since you tend to spend about 10 minutes a month on the forum.

Jeremy, you are one of the few people who make running this league unenjoyable. The fact that I get attitude, and selfish rants is quite annoying.

Trust me, its MUCH more than you think. Also, this is the first time I've ever "complained" about anything regarding this league. But yeah, if you think I'm a terrible owner, that is your right. But I find it funny that when I was going to quit about two seasons ago, you told me my activity was fine, and talked me out of it.

i think if you write crap you should lose points. You should only be able to upgrade one or two players a year and some other things.

Jeremy, gotta be honest... In my opinion, you're in this league because Spencer ALWAYS defended you. My take was that you weren't active enough. You should have been booted a season ago.
As part of the league council, and more importanly a gm of this league, you don't demonstrate a commitment to this league.
Others may feel different, but if you don't want in.... Leave.
