Every year I get tons of questions on what players can be offered, or why players cant be resigned. So I thought Id add a little tip sheet to the rules section, to give people some hints on what to do,a nd what to look for.
*Bird Years-Very important, if a player has less then 3 Bird years, and is in the last year of his contract, he will be hard to re sign. Unless you have cap room, you can only offer the player in question 110% of his current salary. So if a guy makes 1 mill, you can offer him a contract starting at 1.1 mill. Tons of 2nd round picks from the extremely deep 08 draft will be free agents this year. This is because 2nd rd picks from that year could only be signed for 2 years. Now we have a new rule allowing teams to extend 2nd rounders for a 3rd year.
*MLE extensions-Because you can offer your players 110% of their last salary, MLE players can be resigned pretty easily. Use this as a tool in building your team. If you sign solid young players to the MLE, you have a good chance at extending them in Free Agency.
*Scout the FA class-Some people trade for salary cap room blindly, only to find out there is a bad free agent class. Cap room is great, unless there is no one to spend it on.
