As I have been watching the NBA fight over the Collective Barganning Agreement and saw that the main point keeping the two sides apart is the length of contracts; I decided to post this and see what everyone thought of that in BBS....
I think BBS can benefit by making max contracts shorter, 5 years instead of 7 years. This gives owners more leeway in case of a bad contract (ie Big Z or McDyess). Teams also won't get stuck with a number of huge contracts thus hurting their chances to pick up free agents by losing their MLE year after year.
I just figured the owners in the NBA are trying for this to save themselves of bad deals, it dawned on me that this may work for BBS....of course I don't know what the game does or how Spencer and his crew handle that but I figured it'd be worth bringing up for discussion.

Id like to strive towards realism in the sim. So most likely we will do whatever the NBA does in terms of contract lengths. At some point we could just do whatever we seem fit, but we may lose the interest of some GM's if it gets unrealistic. Im open to any ideas, but until we decide differently, the BBS will follow the rules of the NBA's current collective bargaining agreement.

Though in a way, wouldn't bringing in retro players stray away from the "realism" aspect of this sim?

True. But the base rules have always followed the NBA, and until someone propses something that makes sense, I dont see a reason to stray from the NBA rules.
