Top 10 Favorites as of October 24
(In no particular order)
The 2010 season is coming to and end and these last 20 days will give everyone in BBS great races to watch. The MVP Race is heating up with Melo, Kobe, and KG making a run for the award. The league leader in scoring changes every sim. Every division title is tight right now with the biggest lead coming in the Pacific which only has a 3.5 game lead. And of course the playoffs are coming up.
Now that the BBS deadline has passed some of the true contenders separated themselves a bit from the pack. Some big names traded places and teams improved dramatically. Vince Carter gives the Raps a go to perimeter scorer while Shawn Marion gives the Spurs a stud defender and great offensive option. As we finish off this season I have compiled a list of the top ten teams heading into the playoffs. Here’s the list of teams that have a great chance to win this year’s BBS Title Cup.
- Detroit Pistons
The Pistons, 8-2 in their last 10, bring the best record at the time of this article with a 45-21 record. Whenever a team has two top 10 talents in Jermaine O’Neal and Kobe Bryant that will always help put a team over the top. New pickups Jamal Crawford and Eddie Griffin are both starting for the Pistons giving them an extremely tough bench. Peja leads the bench along with 22 year olds Darrel Arthur and Malik Harriston which makes this team the deepest in the league right along with Toronto. Kobe Bryant is also in a prime position to take home the MVP award this year.
- Toronto Raptors
The Raps are 1.5 games back of the Pistons and may have the best starting 5 in the league. Brand and Bosh give this team two tough low post threats while newly acquired Vince Carter finally gives this team an outside threat that they have been looking for. Raymond Felton is a top 5 point guard and Sidney Moncrief shuts down opposing two guards. A match up of the Raps and Pistons will be an extremely interesting series if these two teams meet up in the conference finals.
- Orlando Magic
At 42-23 the Magic are the best team in the Atlantic Division. Larry Bird and Dwayne Wade lead the team in scoring but will their lack of a true go to guy inside hurt their chances of overtaking the Raps or Pistons? Daniel Gibson is a nice point guard to help take the scoring off Bird and Wade’s back but Hansbrough and Perovic must step it up once the playoffs come along.
- New York Knicks
The New York Knicks have a very interesting team. After this year they are going to start over but are making one last run for the title. The Knicks rival other teams for the best starting 5 and are led by veteran Jason Kidd. Kidd gives this team an amazing ball handler with loads of experience. Monta Ellis has exploded this year giving them a true go to guy. If that wasn’t enough the Knicks added Dirk Nowitzki to help with Ellis. Throw in the best defensive player in BBS in Ben Wallace and the Knicks are a team to be reckoned with.
- Washington Wizards
The Wizards have the number two scorer in the league in Carmelo Anthony. Anthony has exploded this year into one of the best players in the league. Newly acquired Allen Iverson gives the Wizards two go to guys once the playoffs begin. Nene and Jefferson are both great low post players but can they help shoulder the load on the offensive end once they start getting deeper into the playoffs?
- Chicago Bulls
I know this team isn’t in the playoffs as of now but I believe that they will sneak in as an 8 seed and make some noise. Tim Duncan leads this team with Baron Davis, Jason Richardson, and newly acquired Lamar Odom. If this team sneaks in they have just as good of a chance of anyone else. The Pistons, Raptors, or Magic better hope they don’t have to match up with this team first or it will be a very difficult first round match up.
- Seattle Supersonics
The Sonics have the best starting five in the league beating out the Raptors and Knicks by a hair. LeBron James leads this talented five and has exploded onto the scene in Seattle averaging over 28 points a game. Stephon Marbury, Shaq, and Dwight Howard all have the potential to be 20 ppg players and Michael Ray Richardson is a defensive monster matching up with the opposing teams two guard. This team is the number one seed as of now but if an injury comes up it could hurt the Sonics due to the lack of depth this team has compared to other playoff contenders.
- San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs showed they were serious about this year by acquiring Shawn Marion at the 11th hour of the deadline. Marion gives them an all world defender to potentially match up with LeBron James down the road. Losing Wright will hurt them in the future but as of now Webber and Murphy will have to do the job down low. Chauncey Billups has been playing like an MVP this year and Hedo is a stud at the 2 averaging 23 points a game.
- Portland Trailblazers
Kevin Garnett….whenever you have him your team is destined for big things. This is so true with this team. If Garnett is not on this team they are hoping for Isiah right along with the Pacers and Mavericks. Garnett brings it all to the table and is leading this team for a push to topple the Sonics in the Pacific. Brandon Rush has been a great number two option giving any opposing team a headache. Sheed and Cooper must do the job against better competition and Harris is always a threat on the offensive end.
- Minnesota Timberwolves
The injury bug has taken a bite out of the Wolves but it couldn’t have been a better time. The Wolves don’t need to be the #1 seed in order to make some nose. The best defensive team in the league also has a well balanced offensive attack. Ray Allen leads the team in scoring with 19 a game but is trailed by numerous players such as Randolph and AK. Kirilenko is the best defensive small forward in the game while the three headed monster of Randolph, Chandler, and Maglorie will cause havoc for teams without an inside presence. The T-Wolves are looking for redemption this year and may be the team to beat the in west.
- Golden State Warriors
Who says you can’t win while rebuilding? The Warriors ripped their team apart this year but are still competing, how you ask? The Warriors acquired not only young players, but players who can contribute now. Thaddeus Young and Emeka Okafor gave this team two outstanding young players to go along with franchise player Darko Milicic. Milicic has taken the franchise role from departed Paul Pierce and flourished. Milicic averages 23 points a game even dropping a 47 point performance against the Sonics (that’s why I traded Odom by the way, lol). The Warriors have a nice young squad and although Brian did not aim to win it this year he may very well surprise a lot of people once the playoffs role around.
