Due to the growth of the league, we are increasing the salary cap from $43,840,000 to $49,818,479. This is an increase of $5,978,478.
Since the beginning of the league, with Free Agency, In-Season Extensions, and a growing player inventory, the league has significantly outgrown its original financial base. Currently, the league as a whole is $346,751,735 over the intended salary cap.
In an effort to continue to discourage overspending and to continue to make the salary cap penalties meaningful to the worst offenders, we have recalculated the salary cap for this year and will consider continued growth as necessary.
The cap penalties and ranges will stay the same at this time.
All questions and concerns will be happily addressed by the Commissioner.

could one possibilty be that if you are a certain amount over the cap, you are unable to offer contract extensions for anyone?
Makes FA more competitive... and allows for teams(yes, like myself) to have a shot at signing big time FAs.

We can certainly discuss that. Itd have to be more structured. Feel free to post an idea here.

Well, I'd like to see what everyone else thinks... not sure exactly what limit.. (somewhere near the area of 15-20 mill over the cap possibly? or may that be to low?)
I think the league may be torn with those under the cap and those over though...

I wouldn't be for that rule in this league.
Unless we start all over but I think that would be unfair for these teams over the cap majorly to say you can not offer contract extensions. Not now atleast.

Not now atleast. How so? Those teams that would be affected have 4 or 5 superstars on the team... and just keep adding superstars by offering max offers during the season...

Because you cant just make a rule because if that rule was in play from the beginning people woulda built teams differently. You could set a time period of when they have to be under the alloted amount of they would lose their rights to sign players.

The problem with this league is that people really don't discuss things all that much...

Chris we actually do discuss quite a bit of things in our league committee section. As for suggestions for changes, I definately listen to ideas that make sense for the league, but Im pretty adamant in the fact that the ideas in this thread just wouldnt work. And I dont even see a very good argument that makes it close to a good idea. I think its an unrealistic idea. Teams have gotten better in this league through just trying harder. Utah and Miami are prime examples of teams that were down right bad, and now have alot of talent. It can be done.

As for the problem with this league? I think its GM's that give up, and become content with medicority. You can always get better, but it takes effort. GM's not trying to get better is the leagues biggest problem.

Yes, Utah and Miami have improved... but they're still both under .500 basketball teams...

I am be under .500 but I turned my team around in one year and made the playoffs 2 years in a row and I am in the playoffs right now. I will still win my division because I am looking to make deals to improve my team.

Its one thing to underachieve and play under 500 ball, and have talent, and to overachieve and play under 500 ball and have little talent. These 2 teams have acquired talent, and can continue to tinker until they find a good fit. They have worked hard to make there team more talented, and now can continue to be contenders. Id be surprised if either team missed the playoffs.

I'm playing some good ball right now, and when I came into the league my Mavs were downright awful with very little future. I only made one major FA signing, and that would be McDyess, so improvements can be made without having to overpay in free agency, which is what usually happens. What I learned to focus on after about a season in here was to gather good defensive players with one or two that can score real well and others who can score if needed. Utah and Miami are both great examples like said above as well.
