New Rules

Couple things Ive been thinking about....

In season extensions....

You will still have 5 extension offers during the season, but only 1 of those extensions can be a MAX extension. I think this will allow some of the big name free agents to actually get to real free agency. In doing this I lose out more then most considering I have two potential MAX guys this offseason in JO and PP. I think this is best for the league. If FastBreakBasketball ever comes out with a new version any rules we have now may be changed, including exemptions.

Free Agency Questions.....

For next year, if you want to know if you have your MLE or LLE youll have to ask. Im not sure what the rules are regarding the exemptions, so just ask if you wanna know.

In season free agency is the add player process. Its first come first serve, signed to a minimum 1 yr contract. The salary amount is different based on player experience, and the salaries can be found in the rule section. You can always sign guys to the minimum even if you're over the cap.

Sim Schedule....

Its updated, and it should be updated from here on out.
Right now BBS sims 7 days a week, with sim days on WED and SUN, usually at my convenience.

Future Drafts....

As always everyone is asked to help with draft classes, I usually do them all from scratch so feel free to lend a hand.

Future of the BBS.....

Well the biggest new feature will be the Throwback feature of our league. In 2008 we will draft players drafted in the 78-79 NBA drafts. In 2009 it will be 80-81, and so on. It should be interesting.

With what would seem to be a huge increae of talent in the league at that point, Id really like to start expansion. Not only Charlotte, but also Brooklyn and Las Vegas. Unfortunately as of now FastBreakBasketball doesn't have a expansion feature. When it does, we will most likely expand to 30 teams. So, not only would I like help with the future draft classes for the Throw Back drafts, I also wouldnt mind some help finding new GM's.

I love the direction this sim is going in, by far the best sim I've ever been in.

I'm going to give you a much deserved thank you for what you've done and continue doing with the sim SDOG, I know you don't get that alot. =)

You may lose out more then most, but not even compare to Chicago... haha. =P

Just some food for thought...you could implement a "hard cap" and not allow teams to go over. That way teams that are in good financial situations can potentially keep more than 1 "star" player at a time while teams that are spending like crazy will have to let some people walk in order to stay under. Basically the same as the original idea but takes finances more into consideration.

I would only consider a hard cap in a new league we started,not in a league we've already run. It does have its plusses, but at this point I would feel cheated if I had a hard cap. I wouldnt have maxed Odom, I wouldnt have Bibby and Billups, basically my team would be much different. Im sure other GM's wouldve managed there team differently knowing there would be a hard cap.

Kinda like how GM's probably would have handled things differently if they knew ratings would eventually be controlled by the sim?

The new system will still allow teams to potentially end up with a max contract player at each position. All you have to do is trade away an allstar player with an ending contract for another allstar player(or potential allstar player) with a slightly longer deal. Basically it just delays the inevitable. Not exaclty realistic or beneficial for league as a whole as teams don't have to consider profits and losses. A hard cap would if anything, make the financial aspects of being a GM relevant. But obviously that's just my opinion.

The financial aspects of FBB is limited. But, in the NBA some teams are 40-50 million over the cap, with no real consequences other than cash. To implement more of a financially responsible system would be quite complex. Would it be a good idea if we could do that? Yes, of course, the more realistic the better.

If FBB's newer version has more of a financial side to things, I would consider starting over, just to give every team a more realistic chance to succeed.

DJ I do agree that the change from real NBA potential to a true sim did screw with some of the moves that GMs did, but I really dont think the sim had a chance going at the slow pace needed to keep with the NBA.

Just a couple of quick thoughts if we did start a new league:

- Have a limit of 2 max players.

I think almost every great team has had two star or max players. Shaq-Kobe, Duncan-Robinson, Olijuawon-Drexler, Magic-Kareem, Bird-McHale, Erving-Malone. The list goes on. I don't think it would be fair to limit teams to just one max player. This would make the playing field more fair because I think for a long time Detroit and Chicago are the only real contenders in the BBS.

- Start over when the new verison of FBB comes out.

I think that this would be good. It would give everyone a fresh start. If possiable even have GMs pick what city their team is located in.
